no friend there is no anger here...like i said, i have nothing but love and admiration for bob weir....it's just that some sort of original music would offer more possibility....some new energy. i am sure you can tell me about all the originals that ratdog play....but what i have gathered is, it's about 70% dead material.....i am not interested in hearing phil's group retread the same material either....

and no i in know way think jerry was god, anymore than i think you or i is god....but, if we're gonna stick with the god metaphor, jerry had the facility to help us see/experience god....he was in no way THE THING, just a shepherd if you will....

I happen to agree with He Live. I really don't have a problem with the remaining members of the dead doing jerry songs but it would be nice if each band found a singer that could pull them off. I think that's where "the dead" failed. Weir and lesh trying to take lead vocals. They should have let Barraco handle that and concentrate on their own tunes vocally. One guy on this site compares weir's vocals on jerry tunes to William shatner talking his way throuigh rocket man and such. Can't remember who it was but he gets a gold star for that one.

Look at it this way...both Weir and Phil aren't shoving anyone off the bus. If anything, they may be bringing new fans onboard. I'm a much bigger Jerry advocate than anyone else in the band, but it still warms my heart that Phil has been able to bring such diverse talent into the fold. I especially like the fact that Warren Haynes and Chris Robinson are good old Southern boys that found their way into the music. I agree that it's not the same, and their will never be another Jerry, but it's still a celebration of the music that we covet.

Earl, excellent points; as i've always said, i may not be a fan of rat dog or the others, but every time phil or bob sings a jerry song, it's just a nod in his direction, the absolute highest respect one artist can give another; cheers

nope, not if it's good or bad, only if it doesn't belittle or mock
